As part of the bagless day activity, students visited the famous Ashokan site at Kalsi which is known for housing a Rock Edict by Emperor Ashoka, the great Mauryan ruler, dating back to the 3rd century BC. This edict is particularly significant because it's the only one found in North India. The core message inscribed on the Rock Edict revolves around the principles of non-violence and Dhamma, his moral code of conduct. The emphasis on non-violence reflects a significant shift in Ashoka's philosophy after witnessing the horrors of war. The visit provided valuable firsthand experience that complements classroom learning. Seeing the historical inscription first-hand helped the students gain a deeper understanding of this important period in Indian history.
