Ms Anjali Sapra, an ex- Welhamite and currently on the Board of Governors of Welham Girls’ School Society, conducted a three-day workshop for the art students on the unique art of egg tempera from 29th April to 3rd May. Tempera, also known as egg tempera, is a permanent, fast-drying painting medium consisting of pigments mixed with a water-soluble binder medium, usually glutinous material such as egg yolk. Ms Sapra is an artist and lives and works in New Delhi. Her desire for experimentation leads her to use a variety of mediums - pen and ink, tea and coffee water, water color, gouache, egg tempera, oil and metallic foil. She has also experimented with sculpture in mixed metal and camphor wood. Drawing on various religious and spiritual texts; poetry and literature, her work cuts across linguistic and cultural divides. She creates a language uniquely her own and attempts to convey that which defies description and definition. Ms. Sapra’s presentation was engaging and informative, as she explained the technique and concepts in a simple and easy manner. The workshop was a valuable learning experience for the students as well as the teachers.
