Six students from junior school attended a Round Square conference at Rockhampton Grammar School, Australia, from 18rd to 27th June, 2024. The four-day conference titled “Cultural Adventures in Paradise” endorsed the Round Square ideals of Internationalism, Adventure and Environmentalism. The delegates were Shatakshi Singh, Griva Bhalani, Aarna Amar Agrawal, Tanya Goyal, Kripa Bhalani and Tamaira Sapra. The attendees with the assistance of ‘Capricorn Catchments’ worked on weed control, mulching trees and planting new saplings as well as watering them. An off-site canoeing expedition at Byfield and visit to an operational tea tree farm were also a part of their repertoire. The group also undertook a glass bottom boat tour of the Great Barrier Reef followed by snorkeling and boom-netting. The Barazza sessions were held after each days’ activities wherein discussions were held on topics ranging from social, environmental, humanitarian and personal. The pre-conference Sydney tour included a visit to the Scenic Blue Mountains and the Katoomba Mines. The students visited the Cockatoo Island and examined the flora and fauna at the Taronga Zoo and Sea Life Aquarium. A sojourn at the Hyde Park, and St. Mary’s Cathedral was followed by a Sydney Harbour cruise with lunch. The highlights of the trip were the guided tour of the famous Sydney Opera House and the drive across the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The delegates returned to India better connected; enriched and sensitised to their environment.
