As part of the school’s focus on experiential learning, Class X students of EVS department carried out experiments to study the water retention capacity of soil by independently exploring various types of soil samples. They sharpened their reflection, critical thinking and synthesis skills in the process of appreciating the significance of soil as a valuable resource. Students tested the pH of soil samples and compared it with pH samples of water which made them analyse and reflect upon the impact of acidic and alkaline soil on soil fertility. They concluded that climate influences soil pH because of its effects on the decomposition of matter.
