For the first time ever, Welhamites walked the quintessential Cannes red carpet! A group of 10 students attended the 77th edition of the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival held from the 14th to the 18th of May 2024. The students attended screenings of a scintillating array of exclusive films spanning varied genres such as Tasio, Faye, Elizabeth Taylor – the lost tapes, Napoleon by Abel Gance, Surfer, Johnny Got His Gun and the acclaimed Indian film ‘Manthan’. The group visited pavilions of different countries, interacted with actors, film-makers and met celebrities, making it a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The trip was appended by a cultural immersion tour of the South of France that included the scenic picture-postcard cities dotting the French Riviera like Nice, Eze, Monaco, Monte Carlo and Grasse. A visit to museums displaying paintings by Marc Chagall and Henri Matisse was spellbinding. Students also had the opportunity to attend a workshop at a perfumery and watched an immersive competition.
