A group of 20 bird enthusiasts from grade 6 to 9 participated in exploring the campus for their feathered friends as part of Great Backyard Bird Count, a global event where campuses come together to document bird species. Nature Science Initiative (NSI) offered a guided birding session for the Welham Campus Bird Count. Bird experts Mr. Taukeer Alam and Mr. Arun Kumar enlightened students with facts about bird habit and behaviour for every bird they encountered on campus. They shared details of investigative studies and research based on study of life and morphology of birds like the Gray Hornbill and the Babbler. A total of 27 bird species were sighted and their details were documented during the session. Students were thrilled to encounter their House birds – the Greater Yellow Nape Woodpecker, Red Breasted Flycatcher, Red Vented Bulbul and the Himalayan Bulbul. Inspired by the event, the students pledged to raise awareness and curiosity for birds and resolved to pursue environmental conservation activities to save the winged wonders from extinction.
