Our young Kathak dancers got a taste of excellence up close and personal when they attended a workshop by the renowned Leena Malakar Vij from the Jaipur Gharana. Ms. Malakar engaged the students in an enriching session that highlighted the intricate nuances of this classical dance form. The workshop began with brief student performances, followed by a demonstration of the Jaipur Gharana's distinctive features, including powerful footwork, intricate spins, and expressive storytelling through abhinaya. Ms. Malakar taught the students a traditional Ganesh Paran and guided them through a thaat, emphasizing grace and poise. The session provided a deeper understanding of Kathak's technical and expressive aspects, concluding with an interactive discussion.
