What Welham Stands For:
“Welham Girls’ long illustrious history and grand achievements stand testimony to the incredible work done here! Value systems can be best established and assimilated for life only when one is young. The portals of great schools like Welham are the vehicles that make this vision a reality. In every way that schools are measured, whether it is academically, in the fine and performing arts, or in sports, WGS has always excelled!
At Welham, we help every student to be perceptive of their environment and the responsibility they shoulder in making it. We teach them to become aware of the power of the individual and imbue in them the ability to discern the value of being HUMANE, above all, and in all that they may be a part of. To us at Welham, the success is all about being ethical and giving under the most trying circumstances. And we believe that this quality is what makes one truly successful not just as a person who is intellectually sound but also complete from within.”
My vision:
“Welham has been acclaimed as the best residential school in India consecutively for several years. My interest would be to soar ahead and create educational facilities with a cutting-edge technology that adequately address the current and future needs of our students. I would like to associate myself with schools that learn, schools like Welham that will constantly scan the environment, communicate regularly with educators across the world, think ahead and tirelessly work on a school design that would rise to meet the challenges and ensure the delivery of a successful educational programme for the future!”
Message for the young students:
“Welham has taught you the much-needed 21 st century skills, often referred to as the 4 Cs which stand for Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration and Communication, with of course, the big fifth C – the Confidence. However, in order to ace in life, you have to be equipped with the four As.
The first A: Be Accepting of all. As you exercise your thoughts as an individual who is independent, thinking and responsible, I want you to have faith and confidence in yourself but never allow pride to take over this faith to a sense of entitlement and privilege.
Speak aloud and be the representative of, and give a voice to those who can’t speak for themselves but never be so loud that you drown others’ voices. The second A, is to Acknowledge others, and believe that they, like you, come with their own set of wonderful experiences.
Remember it is great to have a sense of belonging and pride of one’s roots but this should not become an impediment to our ability to see good in others. This should not blunt our keenness to learn from others. Our senses must always be sharp and ever ready to Adapt, the third A.
Lastly, remember, winners forever retain their ability to embrace change, welcome new perspectives, respect people and ideas for what they are not from whom it emerges. Be always Appreciative of all that is good, which is the fourth A.
As Rabindranath Tagore once said: “The Highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence.”
May you all find that harmony from within.”
