“The school’s ethos had been carefully and painstakingly established by the Founder, Miss Oliphant, and the Founder Principal, Miss Linnell, and continually strengthened thereafter by Miss Srivastava. There may have been no formal Mission Statement formulated but I am familiar enough with Welham and its traditions, its values, to know that such a Mission Statement would have been a strong and fearless one. My vision for Welham, 50 years later, is based on the same enduring values.
To create empowered, aware, trustworthy, upright, sincere, confident, articulate, and committed citizens, fit for today’s India and the world. Citizens who are committed to making a positive impact.
To develop among the students the ability to explore, discover, research, and think for oneself, to acquire the power of lateral thinking, while at the same time cultivating the levels of patience, humility and balanced judgement required to respect others’ varying points of view.
To recognize the importance of possessing the highest level of personal integrity, to develop a strong social and moral conscience, to be committed, to have the courage of one’s convictions, and to be fearless in expressing condemnation and taking action against the perpetration of any ills.
To hold dear the qualities of love, kindness, sensitivity and compassion, and to always be aware of one’s duty and one’s duty and one’s active responsibility towards others, especially those weaker than oneself.
To uphold a strong and vibrant Indian tradition, rooted in history, culture, arts and crafts of India; to ensure high-quality exposure to such a tradition, in order to offer every opportunity to the students to absorb it and to learn from its infinite richness and variety.”
